Noveling Action Plan Progress: Revised September 28, 2013
As I update this plan , ROW80 Round 3 is over. During the break, I am working on a buffet selection of projects, many of them novel WIPs. It’s a good time for setting things up, sweeping up loose ends and weaving them back in, and moving some long-term and long-postponed projects forward.
I’m doing it in a more relaxed way, not as work, but as the pleasure. A ROW80 break, after all, does not mean that I can’t write – even quite a lot.
I created this plan to give focus to my noveling energy, and to keep track of the various works-in-progress (WIPs) I am in the midst of, as I bring the disparate projects into the cohesive whole of my interwoven fantasy/Star Trek fan fiction double series –Trueborn Warp and Weft.
Since I began focusing on monthly noveling goals, I have:
- Completed two rough drafts, Sima Garo Provides and Blood and Breath, both Trueborn WeftWIPs.
- Made steady progress on To Be or Not to Be,which, when separated into fanfic and original elements, will become two WIP drafts.
- Planning and moving through the first novels in each series, The Stars are Fire(Weft), and Perchance to Dream (Warp).
- Begun revision process for Chameleon’s Dish and Bounded by a Nutshell; the current final volumes in each series.
- I have learned much about outlining and revisions.
- I have a clearer vision of the shape of each individual series, how they will fit together, where the gaps are, and how to fill them.
- I have a far stronger concept of the individual novels, backstory, motivations, and recurring themes.
I expect there is far more to learn in the coming months, and I am eager to learn it.
So, what have I been up to, specifically?
September 2013:
Writing:
Write at least 25,000 words in To Be or Not to Be. On target.
- WIP total: 180,361 /~200,000 words; Chapter Forty-Nine in progress.
- September word count: 17,291/25,000.
Write or plan one scene weekly in The Stars are Fire – Trueborn Weft Series . On target.
- A bit late here and there, when there were other focuses more urgent, but quantitatively a success.
- WIP total: 62,613/~100,000 words; Complete through Scene 25/60.
Write or plan one scene weekly in Perchance to Dream –Trueborn Warp Series . On target.
- A bit late here and there, when there were other focuses more urgent, but quantitatively a success.
- WIP total: 62,613/~100,000 words; Complete through Scene 25/60.
Clearly, both rough drafts will exceed 100,000 words. I sense there will be a need to eradicate a lot of backstory, especially in the fan fiction. For now, though, I will keep the targets as they are.
Revision:
Chameleon’s Dish:Carried over from August. On target.
Print and reread, WIP, making on-page rough notes. Target attained!
- All steps complete, and a new sense of the story percolating.
Write one page of notes for each existing scene (goal/motivation/conflict/disaster), and leave pages for pending scenes. Target attained!
- Pages made for all 65 scenes, with placeholder scenes for the scenes yet to be written.
Use Rock Your Revisions to create a rough revision plan. Pending.
- This goal is being set aside until December 2013, to allow for November NaNoWriMo and preparation.
Bounded by a Nutshell: WIP pending; will begin after Chameleon’s Dish.
This WIP revision prep will be carried over to October 2013, and likely beyond.
Print and reread WIP. Target attained!
- The 734 page “Monsterscript” has been read silently and aloud.
Make on-page rough notes. Pending.
- Will begin after I finish my beta-reading in progress.
Write one page of notes for each existing scene (goal/motivation/conflict/disaster), and leave pages for pending scenes. Pending.
- Will begin as soon as I have two scenes’ worth of on-page notes.
Share excerpts from this WIP as part of the WIPpet Wednesday meme, and receiving feedback that will aid the revisioning process. Target attained!
- I have been sharing each week, although I forgot to link once.
Use Rock Your Revisions to create a rough revision plan. Pending.
- This will be carried over to the beginning of next year, when the notes have been completed, and the plan is complete for Chameleon’s Dish.
And for October 2013:

Noveling Action Plan Progress: Revised September 3, 2013
As I update this plan , ROW80 Round 3 is nearing its end. Without the structure of these 80-day blocks of goalsetting and attaining, and the twice-weekly self-evaluation, I suspect I would still be floundering along with abundant stories jumbled in my head, rather than this former tangle slowly unraveling into a smooth double series, braiding together in fascinating patterns…
